Was Mozart a mouth breather?

1.  Maxillary expansion and its effects on breathing

2. Maxillary expansion – historical perspectives

Dr. Claudia Pinter, Dr. Stanley Liu MD, DMD, FACS, Dr. Christian Leonhardt

speaker

As an orthodontist Dr. Claudia Pinter serves patients in Austria as part of a team of specialists dedicated to comprehensive dental care. Her international recognition as a lecturer stems from her ability to help colleagues achieve excellence in their aligner treatments.

abstract

The renowned composer Mozart suffered from recurrent respiratory infections, prompting the question of whether mouth breathing was the cause. Today, we understand how nasal breathing not only helps prevent colds but also promotes restorative sleep through improved oxygen uptake.
While maxillary expansion is a well-established method for addressing skeletal discrepancies and improving breathing, minimally invasive and aesthetic solutions for adults were lacking. The combination of bone-borne expanders with aligners has paved the way for an enhanced patient experience and provided orthodontists with a powerful tool to improve both function and appearance. The revolution lies in a slow expansion protocol that allows concurrent use of aligners without the need to create a disfiguring gap between the front teeth.

about us

Allow us to introduce the passionate minds behind this collaborative endeavor: Dr. Clemens Paffenholz, Dr. Dr. Florian Six, Dr. Christian Leonhardt and Dr. Claudia Pinter (fltr).

Fueled by a shared vision of revolutionizing dental care and improving patient’s overall health, ignited by the Airway concept in Treatment Planning, our journey is nurtured by dynamic collaboration and a profound love for dentistry in all its intricate facets.

The pivotal moment came during the inaugural Dome 2.0 Operation (an intervention concept developed by Dr. Stanley Liu) in Wels, where the decision to embark on this venture was solidified.

What binds us isn’t just our professional pursuits but a longstanding friendship that has now manifested into the Vienna Airway Congress. Recognizing the imperative to elevate the discourse around Airway management, we resolved to extend our reach beyond our practices, engaging both regional and international colleagues.

Our mantra, “Be a lighthouse, not a lifeboat,” resonates deeply. It’s not just about rescuing individuals from drowning; it’s about preventing crises altogether. The growth of the Vienna Airway Congress is a testament to the power of teamwork and collective knowledge.

Our mission is clear: to disseminate this ethos of collaboration and expertise far and wide. Join us as we illuminate the path forward in Airway management.
